Twelve paramilitary police were killed Saturday in a new assault in Niger's anxious southwest flanking Mali, the inside clergyman said.

"There was another assault. Twelve gendarmes were executed. We have propelled look operations," Mohamed Bazoum told AFP.

It comes after a snare toward the start of October executed four US and four Niger officers along the outskirt, which has been consistently focused by jihadist gatherings.

The most recent day break strike occurred in the town of Ayorou in the Tillaberi area, 200 kilometers (124 miles) northwest of the capital Niamey.

A security source said the assailants touched base in five vehicles and fled when police fortifications arrived. Villagers saw them leave conveying bodies.
