Global body’s required funding for humanitarian response

Guterres, in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Stephane Dujarric, condemned the killing of dozens of people in violence in Borno by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The Secretary-General said he remained “deeply concerned about the persisting violence in the Lake Chad Basin region”. He condoled with the bereaved families, the government and people of Nigeria just as he wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Guterres commended national and regional initiatives to bring peace and stability to the area and to address the root causes of the conflict. He also reiterated his calls on the international community to increase support to regional efforts in the fight against Boko Haram in the Lake Chad Basin. Meanwhile, the UN humanitarian response plan for 12 sectors in the insurgency affected Northeast has suffered poor funding of $559.1 million. Clergyman of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, denied the claim in an announcement

The Federal Government has rejected a report by the United Nations, which guaranteed it paid an "expansive payoff" to anchor the arrival of the kidnapped Dapchi students. Clergyman of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, denied the claim in an announcement on Thursday night. He tested anybody with proof of such installment to distribute it. "It isn't sufficient to state that Nigeria paid a payment, little or gigantic. There must be a decisive confirmation to help such claim. Without that, the claim remains what it is: a minor guess," the Minister was cited as saying in an announcement by his Special Adviser, Segun Adeyemi. A United Nations report submitted to the Security Council had itemized how Boko Haram was subsidized and demonstrated that the installment of payment and the prevalence of money economy supported the psychological oppressors.
